What is Ashiatsu massage?
In Japanese, “ashi” translates to “foot” and “atsu” into “pressure”. Ashiatsu is a barefoot massage technique, where the massage therapist applies pressure to the client’s body using their feet (as opposed to their hands), and it is done while suspended above the client using bars attached to the ceiling. It uses deep tissue compression to provide muscle relief, but unlike the Deep Tissue style (where the massage therapist uses their elbows and knuckles to apply the pressure to precise points), Ashiatsu uses more broad, consistent pressure, and relies on gravity to do the work (instead of force). The contours of the therapist’s foot work smoothly against the client’s body. If you want the benefits of deep tissue, without the fear of sharp pains or discomfort that can come from elbows and knuckles, then this is the style for you!
Ashiatsu style massage can help with:
decreasing chronic tension
freeing pinched nerves
relieving back spasms
increasing range of motion/elongating muscles
improving posture
detoxifying muscles
decreasing pain
[This style of massage is not permitted for those who are pregnant.]
